Stephanie Kolpy

Kolpy is known for her layered monoprint paintings. Her current work draws a symbolic parallel between visual interpretations of apocalyptic mythoi and the Holocene extinction, the ongoing sixth great extinction event, where ancient species are dying off in masses due to climate change as a result of human activity. The visual iconography is apocalyptic; the overarching theme of apocalypse (from the Greek word apokalypsis, meaning ‘to reveal’), has driven Kolpy to more clearly articulate a perspective of the future and what it will ‘reveal’ to us. This current pandemic and social unrest seem to be connected to a metaphysical battle between humanity and nature which is depicted in this body of work titled MAN-MADE.
